UN Environment Programme: Pollution
In the United Nations Environment programme, a resolution paper was read to the delegates. This paper included support from the delegates from Latvia, the Ivory Coast, The United States of America, and Pakistan, although these are only a minority of the supporters of this paper. These delegates spoke on the topic of pollution, and how to solve this growing problem.
They discussed how pollution is caused by factories and by human interection, and they promoted their views on ways to decrease pollution.
The authors of the resolution paper stated that they believed that pollution can be reduced through education of the young and old alike, and they plan to fund research into the sources of pollution and the negative effects. “[We] request that countries take it upon themselves to enforce rigorous pollution guidelines,” stated the delegation of the United States. Along with this suggestion, they stated their belief that working with neighboring countries to educate citizens and research will quicken the process of repairing the damage caused by pollution.
The delegate from France raised the question of how the delegates plan to make their attempts and programmes known to people, and how they plan to promote it. The delegation of France also brought up the compelling question of how they plan to provide incentives citizens to take steps to create less pollution.
The delegation of Latvia responded by restating points that had been included in their resolution paper. He reinforced their views by emphasizing the importance of education, cooperation, and UN funded research. Additionally, he stated that extra research would be funded to discover the abilities of individuals to limit pollution and the effects on humans.
The delegates concluded their argument by encouraging renewable energy sources to be promoted.
